A little bit of Taos....

Coming from a small town; I love small towns.  And, Taos, New Mexico is a lovely example of a relaxed, kick back, small town.  It's artsy, peaceful, friendly  and a gem.

Just walking around the town square, talking with people and visiting the lovely boutique stores, you can't help but "buy into" the pace!

Although there were cars in town, I don't know were the people were.  It seemed like we had the town to ourselves.

The people who have the privilege of living in this town of about 5,000, find themselves nestled in the foot of the mountians. It's always an interesting feeling to be cast in the shadow of large mountains. It's almost like a protection, and a strong hand in control.

And, you can't  go anywhere in New Mexico without there being chili peppers. The art of stringing chili papers is called Ristra.  Originally farmers would string the peppers and hang them to dry.  The folklore is that if you hang them outside your door, they will chase the evil spirits away.  I have them hanging in my kitchen to chase the evil spirit away that sometimes messes up a meal!

Anyone who has one of these beautiful wreaths, also understand the spilling of seeds!

How about these sinks!  Beautiful and inexpensive.  Should have shipped one home!

I believe the story of this sidewalk/porch goes ... these are the original boards of the  town saloon .. they are warn down, grey in color and have the feel of many feet having passed over them.

The local artists have their work in the boutiques.  I love my hand hammered sterling silver loops earrings and the necklace made from local stone and threaded on a rawhide strand.  (I always try and support the local artists.)

Although I would have loved to go to the ski resort, I decided to go to Taos Pueblo. Make sure you come back tomorrow for a glimpse of that history.   Ahhhh, small town America ... you are a gift.
