Welcome mat worked!

Several post ago, I mentioned that I had put out the welcome mat on a new birdhouse. Well!!!! My invitation was accepted! "CW", did you pull in a special favor to bring one of my most favorite birds to build a nest on top of the Pergola? My house is now filled with the beautiful song of the House Wren!

These industrious little birds bring in long sticks, much longer than what can be pushed through the opening.  Their solution to the problem .... they move their beak along the stick until they get to the end, then they position the stick along their body and in the hole they go! Amazing!

I love to see progress!

I was "strolling" through my pictures tonight and caught some past pictures of the pergola. The first picture was from yesterday ..... lots of color and plants in bloom.

Here was the beginning - back to mid April!  The garden hadn't even been reconfigured yet.

The one above and below is mid May status!

This is yesterday's shot .... more to come ... more plants in bloom, more progress to show.  The world really is an ever changing canvas!

The Dam at Letchworth Park.

I don't know where I have been for the last 35 years of my life, but I didn't know that this dam was built to prevent flooding in Rochester! It is mind boggling to me that there could possibly be enough water to fill this dam (why would they build it this big if it wasn't necessary).

You can see that water has carved the basin below the dam.

Equally amazing is the fact that the waterfall in the picture below is 17 miles up the gorge from the dam! Look at the last picture of the dam and you can see that there is hardly any water at the bottom.  Where does it all go!!

Softer side of yesterday's post ....

Although these are also pretty dramatic photos from last night, they are less so than may post of yesterday.  The clouds in this first picture are what drew me out.  As I mentioned in a post sometime back, I love to find pictures in the clouds.  This one has the side profile of a face blowing smoke out of it's nose, has a dark eye and perhaps a broad brim hat.

I can't find anything in the picture above or below.

In this one (above), I find a clown (on the right half of the picture), with a big bulb of a nose and a partially open mouth - kind of lying on the back of it's head.

I see another face here on the right half of the picture.  Dark hair, red nose, mouth, chin  - looking to the left.

I see a crazy beast here - top 3rd of the photo. Face is on the left, big nose, spiky dark ears, its arched back is dark and the underbelly is fire red with scrawny legs drawn forward as if making a big jump! It's tail goes off the picture.

OK, that was fun!  If you didn't see what my crazy imagination did, then I hope you at least enjoyed more of the beautiful clouds of last night!

WOW!

There simply are no words!  I walked out my front door tonight and this was the sky over the Lake Ontario!

Do you agree?  No words! Mind you, these photos are not enhanced in any way!

Windows ....

... are such great teasers.  Yes, teasers.  Don't you want to go up to the barn windows and poke your head in and see what exactly goes on behind this cool line up of windows?

And, with this reflection, don't you just want to turn around and see that flag for real?

Wouldn't you love to hear the stories that these beautiful old lace curtains could tell?

Don't these windows just lure you closer to walk through the door? It beacons ... come closer.

And, what about this window box filled with beautiful flowers.  I see the lamp on in the room just beyond.  I want to see that room.

Love the planters but I want the story beyond the windows.

Ahhhh, finally, windows that I know the story behind!  I like this perspective!

The astilbe are coming!

 And, the daises!

 And, the roses and lavender!

And, I have a second hummingbird who is dive bombing my yard!

And, who knows who may sometime come to visit! I have the welcome mat out and I am ready.  How is it that my yard can be such an exciting place!

Colors ......

... in my planters are so pretty this year. They are vibrant yet calming ... how can that be.

The combination of Cosmos and Petunias is very pleasing.  I'm glad that I chose the combination.

I love taking my morning coffee and wandering my deck. It's a very pleasing atmosphere.

Oh - and those solar  lights in the planters let me enjoy the flowers in a new way ... love the ambiance.
