Abby of the Genesee, Piffard, New York

It was an interesting stop that we made today while driving through Livingston County (south of Rochester, NY).  The stop at the Abby of the Genesee was ... a quiet and serene experience.  Just a little history for those of you who don't know of the Abby, it's a community of about 30 Trappist monks. The land and the buildings are just as you would expect. And, we were fortunate enough to have an opportunity to engage in conversation with one of the monks. As we were leaving the Abby, we stopped in their store and bought two loaves of their Monk's bread.  I suspect that many of you have enjoyed this delicious bread as it's sold in grocery stores far and wide.  (If you haven't had the pleasure, make sure you find some to toast and want more of!) Of interesting note, they hold services throughout the day and night ... and early morning ....2:25 AM. I would be willing to bet that the Gregorian Chant music is very beautiful, even at that hour.
