The story about this Rockport, Massacheusetts fishing shack is so interesting. The rich history of this building, dating back to the 1840's, includes memories of a fishing shack, painter's studio, monument to Rockporter's who served in the Armed Forces, all the way to today when it still is an icon in the community. Loved by all, but especially art students, it is claimed to be the "most often-painted builing in America".
So loved is this building, that when it was destroyed by the blizzard in 1978, an exact replica was build that same year. The red paint is one found to look weathered even when it is new and the area around the building is kept clear of wires and signs so as not to detract from its beauty.
On the day that I was clicking away, a ship was moored behind the building and so you see the double mast.
My goal ...... to make it the most photographed building in Rockport on the day that I was a visitor! Be thankful I didn't post them all!!
Nice! I have been to Rockport and have my own collection of photos of that shack.
ReplyDeleteHey Miles - I think they should change their claim to fame to be "most-often photographed" too. Just something about that shack that makes you keep circling to find every possible angle and light to catch it in. It certainly stands tall in that lovely little town!
