Wild about Allium!

Lake Placid, NY

Did you know ...... ?  Well, you are about to know!

I love researching random things. Some time back I shared some interesting information about Trillium and ants.  Now I am going to share information about allium and bumble bees!  Bumble bees love allium  .... and you will never guess why.

Did you know ..... bumble bees have different length tongues!!!!  Dependent on the length of their tongues, they like certain flowers.  Allium have short open flowers that are easy for the bumble bees to get at the nectar!

Even more info ....... some bumble bees actually cut the base of deep flowers to drink in the large amounts of nectar.

Simply fascinating!

Bubbles!

I'm going to figure it out Nana!
I say ..... blow slowly ... and see what happens.

It works! Look at that!

I can do it!  I told you I could do it!

You go girl! Conquer the world!

Shades of pink .....

As summer begins its slow retreat, I wander my garden and enjoy the pinks.

You'll find pinks tucked into corners of my garden  ... waiting to surprise you.

In those corners they invite you come come in closer .... and enjoy the aura they create.

Even my feathered friends are drawn to the pinks. I can't help but smile ... and feel my heart slow .... as my pinks bring color to the world.

Day's done .. in the mountains.

Saranac Lake, New York

There's something about the silhouette of the dock, the gentle rolling wave ripples, and the reflection of the setting sun gently easing away the day in my hometown .... it's something you never forget. And, I wouldn't want to.

A ride into Kiwassa .....

Can you place yourself on the boat with me, winding your way up the channel into Kiwassa?

The river is narrow and curvy ... and delightfully peaceful.

Although there are several spots along the ride that make you want to pull over and explore, the ride through the river  fills your senses with the Adirondacks.

Just one boat ride gives you water, mountains, trees, loons, ducks ... and all that us natives hold near and dear to our hearts.

It's the call that keeps bringing me back.

I love DYI projects!

Can I tell you how excited I was to become the recipient of this wonderful old glider!
What a stroke of good fortune for me.
My dear friend CW asked if I would like to take it home with me.
Hummm.... let me think about that  .... for a second!

Now I have to say that my garage doesn't normally look like that in the first 2 pictures.  It's loaded up with all kinds of stuff ..... that has to do with my DYI project #2.  More on that to come very soon!

Do you remember ... sitting on the dock ...

... feeling the water lap around your feet ... and relaxing with the world.

But, who can resist splashing Papa!

And, hanging out with family.

Ahhh...watching the ducks go by.  And, do you remember the little black "water bugs".
How I loved to catch them and keep them in my bucket.
But, every morning I would check that bucket and it was empty .... Dad gave them back to lake of that I am sure.

It's a wonderfully simple thought.

The Adirondack Carousel and playpark!

The hand-painted  carousel animals are delightful, creative and enchanting.  I was wishing that I wasn't on the end of my camera so that I could join my grandchildren ... ride after ride after ride. How is it that they don't get dizzy!

Who can resist these magical animals ... and the lure to engage in their journey.  I know of 4 little ones that were only to happy to keep riding as long as we said, "OK, one more time!".

Equally as exciting was the play-ground just outside the doors of the carousel.

And, there is more than one way to climb in this park .... ladders and slides and stairs ... taking those little minds, up, up and away!

Thank you to all those wonderful Saranac lake, NY folks who made this happen.
Once again, you rock!

The Wild Center ... A Tupper Lake, NY gem!

Tupper Lake has achieved the creation of a center that shouldn't be missed if you are traveling through the Adirondacks. The building, exhibits, grounds, flowers and trails are top notch!

There is something for everyone here, and plan on it taking the day to really explore it all.

It's my 3rd time back and I'm ready to return again. It just gets better and better.

Four of our grandchildren in tow ... everyone enjoyed it!
