Cabin Fever!

When you live where it's snow and cold, you'll do anything to get out and make the best of it!

These  guys hunkered down, covered ever piece of skin they could and took off with a roar! Mind you, that wind chill must have been -30 or more.

Round and round they went .... building up speed, taking sharp comers and spraying up the snow.

Their track took them a good way out on the bay.

But they were obviously having a great time!

And then their buddy joined them ... he had to have nerves of steel!


He kept winding up that motor and eventually passed them in a flash!

I got back in my nice warm car and thought ....yup, that cabin fever hasn't gotten to me yet.  No way would I be out on that ice in this cold.

A spot of yellow!

What Monday can't do without spot of yellow!

It's worth taking it in and letting it mill around in your being.

I might actually make it to Tuesday now!

A package from Turkey!

Anticipation is such a wonderful experience.

I had a "heads up" that a special package was coming my way.

But, I'm getting ahead of myself, as I must tell you the history first.

How fortunate am I to have a cousin and his wife who bring foreign exchange students into their life; and, therefore into mine.

On one visit to my cousin's, I had the wonderful opportunity to become the "favorite American aunt" of my "favorite Turkish niece".

And now you are caught up on the story to where now this intriguing package arrived from ... Turkey!

During the visit to my cousin's house, I had my very first sip of Turkish coffee. What treat! Now,  I have to say that although I loved the coffee, the fact that it was made by my favorite Turkish niece, at my cousin's house ... may have added to my love of the coffee.

So today, the package arrives, complete with all that I need to prepare my own cup of Turkish coffee! As you can see, she thought of everything!

 The only thing missing is my favorite Turkish niece!

But ... in the most interesting way, she can sit right beside me as we use all the wonderful technology that let's me "talk" with her real time.

Child's play!

 I think I am getting a better grasping on this whole Nana thing

I now get to buy and play with  all these cool toys that kids have now a days.

Of course you can grow these collections to be a small city!

But, it is so fun to hear a grandchild create and play with the lives of these little critters.

 

What's really funny is to hear how the play with these little families reflects the family of the one playing with them.  Sometimes I just have to laugh!

 

So, play is done ... for this time. Everything back in the drawers!

We closed up shop ... for today!

Next time it will be a new adventure, new story, more smiles and Nana will have a warm feeling for all that is in her life.

Even as the petals dry up, twist and turn and change their color....

...they actually become even more interesting.

They show their color, and texture and personalities in yet another way.

They have had their moments of intense and vibrant beauty.

They have earned the right to change in this new phase.

The change is a final phase ... and in its own right .... so beautiful.

The message is clear.

There must be a story.

 There just has to be.  I can feel it.

Here are the thoughts dancing in my head.. 

Back in the 1920's, 30"s, 40's,  I don't think life had so much "stuff" as it does today.  I expect that life had some hard edges and these little tea cups brought color and finery to a household.

 I bet there was such pride when coffee or tea were served in these little pieces. I bet there was a wonderful feeling of good ... ...

 I can just see the steam rising, the fingers wrapping .... 

and, no awareness that years and years would go by and someone would walk by the curio cabinet and think ....

.... I so wish I could wrap my fingers around this cup and sit and talk with you. I want to hear your stories of how these came into your life. I want to hear the stories that were told as you were sipping from this cup.  Was it about weddings,  babies,  family and friends?

I long to know the stories. But, they will remain quietly captured in these little pieces of history.

So pretty, so sweet .....

Right about now, I'm looking to grow things and seeing as though outside growing isn't even a possibility, I'll be content with my indoor lovelies.
